Let Me Be Your Fantasy – Baby D

Let Me Be Your Fantasy – Baby D

This one's straight out of my clubbing days. It was a huge tune back in it's day, Baby D appeared at a club we were at one night, they turned up mimed along to the track and then moved onto the next club. Clever stuff, but I have to say I always thought it was a banging song. All be it I was obsessed with singing "let me be your four by three' instead of fantasy, why I'm not sure. I used to have some windmill dance moves and always seemed to make space on the dance floor, I think the other dancers were scared of getting a black eye or similar.

It's a wanna be love song wrapped up in serious beats, the intro makes me think were in some sort of ice palace, then the whispering draws you in. Then it's the best ringtone going until the beat kicks in and were off. Just the right tempo to dance to, positive messages as the lyric starts. Clever simple rhythms and a great song title, everyone has a fantasy. The way the energy drops down and then builds up time and again keeps you interested throughout. The piano riffs would fit into any other genre of music, they are quite classical sounding. This one isn't going to win any awards for it's wordplay, it's plenty suggestive, I think it's safe to say it was aimed firmly at us twenty somethings that were hopeful of a fun evening.

It took nearly three years from it's original release to be deemed a hit in the charts, it had been doing the rounds in the clubs all that time. Like all these type of songs there's tons of versions and remixes, so these songs seem to be around for decades. Quite often with these musical movements it takes a while to build momentum, the music finally becomes mainstream and then everyone who helped found it runs a mile onto the next underground scene. This old skool anthem is still cranked out at parties and a is firm favourite with would be DJs everywhere. Baby D also had another great clubbing song called 'I Need Your Loving'.

Favourite lyric : I'll put a smile upon your face, I've got what it takes to make you mine.
