Who Wants to Live Forever – Queen + Adam Lambert

So I sat down to watch a Netflix documentary 'The Show Must Go On' about one of my favourite bands Queen and how they got their new front man Adam Lambert. Being a big admirer of Freddie Mercury I'm one of those who would have said he was irreplaceable, but to be fair to Mr. Lambert the footage in the documentary proved me wrong. He held his own on a lot of the iconic songs, and he also was very honest about trying not to be a Freddie impersonator. Brian May and Roger Taylor don't really need to big up their success, their three disk greatest hits albums, a long running West End musical 'We Will Rock You' and the recent biography film 'Bohemian Rhapsody' could that for them, so for them to endorse and praise this young singer you get the impression he's the real deal.

On this song especially I thought Adam even outdid Freddie, which is not something I thought I'd ever say. The documentary explained that since he came second on American Idol back in 2009, Adam Lambert's own career has taken a few turns in different directions. You get the emotion in his singing from someone's whose whole life has been a journey of them finding themselves and wanting the world to take notice. Very similar to Freddie in so many ways I would think.

Queen always rocked my world, I was one of those that so admired their Live Aid performance in 1985. But they fell away from being current like all big bands seem to do along the way, my generation always sights 'Wayne's World' for making them cool again from being those odd guys from the 1970s, the head banging scene in Garth's car along to Bohemian Rhapsody is one of cinema's iconic moments. But along with that should be mentioned 'Flash Gordon' a film from 1980 which Queen did the soundtrack for, the amazing song 'Flash' with all the voice clips from the movie inserted has such a driving beat, I remember us watching it on VHS cassette during schools holiday.
"Gordon's Alive' boomed Brian Blessed and going by the performance in this video it would seem so are 'Queen'.

Favourite lyric : What is this thing that builds our dreams / Yet slips away from us?
